I plan on getting a second opinion but I do believe Dr Flint is correct? It was very late in the day and I would have liked a few more minutes to discuss such a serious problem. I had been told by an doctor at a Emergency Care clinic that it was almost certainly bursitis. It was a stunning diagnosis and I was shocked. I was shocked at the diagnosis and I don't know if he understood the severe pain I have been suffering? I had more questions too ask but after saying he would get me a brochure on the hip replacement a nurse was the next person I saw. I only saw Dr Flint for about ten minutes. Dr Flint blamed my problem on prior corticosteroid use and I don't disagree due to uncontrolled asthma and nasal polyps when I was younger. I have been in severe pain for over one year. The X-Rays were shown to me and they were horrible. I was shocked as this was a worst case scenario. I was told I needed a double hip replacement. Most doctors these days don't seem to have much of a good "bedside manner" he is one who does, and I appreciate it. It has been a long time since I have had such a satisfactory and informative conversation with a physician. I left with exactly what I had hoped to receive-kind and caring advice and consultation on my problem. He helped me with some exercises and gave me some advice for my upcoming appointment with a rheumatologist and regarding some of the medications for RA, which I needed information on. At the end, we agreed to postpone the treatment (cortisone shot) because I have started a very serious problem-targeted workout program, and we both want to see where that will lead. I went in for a consultation and some kind of treatment, if he thought the latter was necessary. He runs on a tight schedule, and it became clear when he had to go to another patient but that's not his fault. There should be a category above "very good" to describe my last visit with Dr. My take-away from this visit left me with one word for Dr. The orders handed to me for Physical Therapy addressed only 1 area of my concern and when I asked about that, the PA said, "Just have them call and we'll okay treatment". limit stairs, avoid heavy lifting) then again he did not ask me what my daily routines were like - in the form of exercise, work/hobbies, care of others etc. He did not suggest that I should or should not do any particular physical movements (i.e. I did not know what his DX was until I had the paperwork handed to me at the desk upon exit. He offered no comments as he poked my hip to which I yipped, checked the range of motion for my neck and shoulder. He made no notations of any sort while I explained the timeline of my 3 painful areas. The PA was satisfactory and did her job with efficiency and concern. These comments are ascribed to the doctor. disc degeneration in my lower back, I guess he simply was not vested in my care. Having just received a call back this afternoon letting us know that he could not treat me as I had severe. Since I am a new patient to him and all of my physicians are in the Piedmont system, we were surprised to have been treated this way. This provider suggested physical therapy for a patient who could not even move in the most rudimentary of ways and said that he"hears the same story all day long from people wanting narcotic drugs.". When we finally reached a point that I was unable to move and this provider offered the same anti-inflammatory that we have had several times, my husband simply asked if there was anything stronger that could be used to help with the pain while they figured out what was to be done to mitigate the problem. In reality, we have been through many Piedmont specialists and have requested nothing in the way of narcotic medication at all, despite the level of pain. In this case, we were treated as if we were drug addicts off of the street looking for some sort of heavy narcotic treatment with not other concern. My husband and I use Piedmont Physicians for everything medical due to comfort and trust.
